Sankara Nethralaya Medical Research Foundation was established in the year 1978 under the leadership of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, the Sankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam as a mission to create an institute and hospital with missionary spirit. It is approved by National Medical Council (NMC). The college got affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai in year 1984. The college has a sum of 2 acres of land and the college premises is build within 36000 square meters.
