NMC Proposes Common Counselling for Admissions to Graduate Courses Across India

Source:  The Economic Times

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has proposed holding shared counselling sessions for graduate degree admission across all medical institutions in the nation. There shall be common counselling for admission to graduate programmes in medicine for all medical institutions in India based on the National Eligibility Entrance Test- Undergraduate (NEET-UG) merit list, without prejudice to anything stated in the present Regulations or other NMC Regulations.

The National Medical Commission's (NMC) seat matrix will be the only factor used to guide the counselling process. Additionally, if thought appropriate, the usual counselling process may include numerous rounds. Guidelines for the conduct of common counselling will be published by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB). The common counselling process shall then be carried out by the designated authority indicated in section 17 in accordance with the UGMEB's established rules.

A recognised authority would be chosen by the Indian government to manage the unified counselling procedure. All undergraduate seats will be counselled by an agency and according to a methodology determined by the government.
