It is a constituent of the prestigious Dayanand Group of Educational Institutions. The institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as well as the Government of Karnataka. The college received NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditation and its courses have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). It is permanently affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and its campus is spread over 23 acres of land.

The Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering was established in 1979, was founded by Late Sri R Dayananda Sagar and is run by the Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Peetha Trust (MGVP). Under the auspices of Visvesvaraya Technological University, the college offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate programmes.
