The institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as well as the Government of Maharashtra. The college received NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditation and its courses have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). It is permanently affiliated to Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU) and its campus is spread over 4 acres of land.

K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering was founded in 1983 as a constituent institution of the famed Somaiya Vidyavihar University (UGC accredited). With a long and rich history in the area of education, this is a location that continues to strive and provide an atmosphere for students to study the foundations, develop and exchange information, and find new truths in a holistic manner. And, in the process, the young learner is transformed into an "all-around future ready engineer" ready to confront new difficulties.

K J Somaiya College of Engineering provides exposure to project-based learning beginning in the First Year, with an emphasis on identifying issues and finding technological solutions through collaborative learning. The institution offers a range of learning experiences, including simulations, models, peer learning, and personalized adaptive learning, to mention a few. "Learning by doing" is the college slogan, which is achieved by encouraging students to participate in various initiatives as part of their studies or internships. College offers inclusive education in which the weaker pupils are cared for both physically and financially. The institution provides need-based and merit-based scholarships to a select number of eligible students.

Scholarships

Scholarships subject to the central and state government as well as college rules. At KJ Somaiya College of Engineering, there is a strong emphasis on promoting Inclusive Education by providing equal opportunities to both needy and meritorious students. To support this mission, several scholarships are available for B.Tech and M.Tech students, including the "PUSH" Need cum Merit scholarship for deserving students and industry-sponsored scholarships such as those from Blue Star, JSW Foundation, Sulzer (for female students), and Ramlal Khetawat. Merit scholarships are also available for M.Tech students. Moreover, the college offers financial assistance to students in need, with Somaiya Vidyavihar University providing up to 20-80% of total fees waived for those who meet the eligibility criteria, such as having a family income of less than INR 800,000 per annum or being a ward of a defense personnel who is disabled or deceased in the line of duty.
